Coaching to Reduce Mental Stress
The primary thing that stands between you and a happy relationship, successful business, health goals, money goals and the desire to live a fulfilling life, is mental stress.
According to The Mental Health America website, mental stress happens when we worry about loved ones, money, retirement, health, etc… We all know that traumatic events also trigger mental stress. Less dramatic events, such as the strain of daily obligations, take a toll on our mental health, that often goes unnoticed. Meanwhile, our body goes into an automatic fight or flight type response by increasing your blood-pressure, heart rate, and other vital bodily functions. When your body is constantly reacting to tense situations, it impacts your health and well-being in a negative way.

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that stress is caused by our circumstances, and the behavior of those around us. If we had more money or better health, we would be happier. If the other person would stop being so arrogant, lazy, mean, condescending, or self-centered, we could have peace in our lives. If our adult child would go see a therapist of stop using drugs, we could relax. If our co-worker would just do their job or if our boss would listen better, we would enjoy our work more.
But, if we understand how life works, we will see that nothing outside ourselves, can cause us mental stress. Mental stress is always the result of how we process our thoughts about the people and events around us. Each one of us creates our own unique experience of life. Given the choice to feel sad, angry, frustrated, bored; or happy, peaceful, fulfilled or excited about life, most people would choose the latter.
This is not to say that we should never feel any of the so-called negative emotions, but we do have the ability to “do” damage control. I placed “do” in quotation marks, because calming our negative emotions, is more often a case of NOT DOING anything. As counterintuitive as it sounds, there is often no action required on our part, no meditating, no positive affirmations, no replacing our negative thoughts with positive thoughts.
As a coach, I work with my clients to help them reduce the mental stress in their lives, so they can tap into their creativity and have more energy to do the things they want to do. There are no techniques to learn or exercises to do, just an exploration into a different way of being in the world.
Every aspect of our lives improves when we are not living in a chronic stressful state. Relationships, career, business, health, wealth, etc.… all benefit when we learn to use our inner resources.
